52 Editions!

"Barbwire," from the series Domain, is this week's piece at 52 Editions. You can purchase small, affordably priced prints that are part of a limited edition. It's a great way for you to buy art that won't wipe out your bank account. It will remain on their front page for the rest of the week and will be available as part of their permanent catalogue.

Flak Photo and Lenscratch

I just wanted to post a couple of quick links.  One of my photos was featured today on Flak Photo, a great website created by Andy Adams, who I met at Review Santa Fe.  Check it out, there is a lot of other fantastic work on the website, including that of my fellow Chicagoan Dave Jordano a couple of days ago.  Also, Aline Smithson wrote about my work yesterday in her blog Lenscratch.

Kinsey, Review Santa Fe

I went down to Bloomington, Indiana a couple of days ago for the opening of the Kinsey Institute Juried Art show (see below post), and I just wanted to put up images of some of my favorite pieces from the show. The Kinsey Institute has a pretty remarkable permanent collection, over 100,000 pieces, and regularly mounts exhibitions from the collection. Up now is a fascinating exhibition titled "Eros in Asia: Erotic Art from Iran to Japan" featuring work from the 16th-19th centuries. Walking through the halls of the Kinsey I saw some really incredible work from artists such as Hans Bellmer and Judy Dater.

You can hear an interview with Jennifer Cahn, the show's juror, here. A few shots from the show and pictures of some of my favorite pieces:

my good friend Niki Grangruth's piece Burden from her series The New Madonnas

Russel Semerau, The Castle, 2008 (it moved!)

Dimitre Andonov's hilarious and kind of sad Congratulations and Soccer from his Erection series

Natalie Theis, Knock Knock, 2005

Tomorrow morning I'm headed for Review Santa Fe, where I'll have a chance to show my work to Charlotte Cotton (LACMA), Katherine Ware (NM Museum of Fine Arts), Laura Addison (also NMMFA), Kate Bussard (Art Institute of Chicago), Andy Adams (Flak Photo), Michael Mazzeo, David Bram, Darren Ching (of KlompChing gallery) and Jon Feinstein (Humble Art Foundation).

Evanston Art Center Benefit Auction

Come support the Evanston Art Center at their annual gala and benefit auction.  It's a fantastic organization that offers art classes and puts on great exhibitions.  The work will be up for preview from April 26 until May 16.  One of my pieces, Strangler Fig Embrace, will be for sale at the auction, so stop by, have a look, and support a great cause!
